Why professional floor cleaning is so important

Carpeting and hardwood floors add comfort and beauty to your home and are often a huge investment. However, floors can also harbor allergens like dirt, dust, mold and as well as bugs that most homeowners cannot remove with everyday cleaning methods.  Allergens and bugs can affect the health and comfort of you and your family as well as accelerate the breakdown of your floors.  That's why it's important to have a professional floor cleaning at least once per year.

Hardwood Floors

Deep-cleaning hardwood floors is not something that most homeowners can do on their own. Most homeowners clean the surface dirt and dust but actually push a lot of the dirt around and into the fine crevices and tiny bevels in your floors. The biggest threat to hardwood flooring is dirt and grit that gets ground into the surface of the finish and causes ugly scratches and a worn finish.  Over time, the dirt will become embedded into the worn surface of the wood and cause dark areas within the floor. A professional cleaner will remove all of the deeply embedded dirt that ordinary cleaning cannot get.

Carpets

Like hardwood floors, carpets also need regular professional attention, for several reasons. For instance, carpet is an excellent breeding site for mold, especially and cold and humid climates. Mold can cause skin allergies and even breathing issues if left unchecked. With deep cleaning, you discourage the formation of molds in the fibers of the carpet.
Carpets can also often harbor bugs and beetles- yes, it's true. Carpets are giant filters that end up trapping dust, dirt and allergens. Certain insects are attracted by these things. Since carpeting creates a warm and inviting environment, it's all a bug or beetle needs to start eating up the fibers in your carpet and even cause a bad odor.
Maintaining the form of your carpet is another byproduct of regular professional cleaning. Dirt and sand particles contribute to the wear-and-tear of the fibers with their abrasive edges. Over time, through constant use and accumulation of dirt, certain areas can start to look pushed down and distorted. However, with regular deep cleaning, the wear-and-tear is minimized and the carpet looks newer much longer.
Professional cleaning by experts such as ServiceMaster of Wichita Falls, Texas, will keep your floors looking cleaner and lasting longer.

Flood Prevention Tips from ServiceMaster Total Restoration Services (TRS)

Texas is known for its warm and dry climate.  When you live in dry climate, you normally don’t think about the threats of flooding.  Flood prevention is something everyone in every state should know about.  Whether you live in the mountains of Colorado or urban living in Chicago, flooding can affect just about anyone.  Even if you think your area is not susceptible to flooding, everyone should know a couple helpful hits when it comes to flood prevention.

First thing you should check are flood related maps.  These can be found at FEMA.  These maps allow you to search your area and see what type of weather zone you are in.  This can be high flood, fire and other natural disaster areas.  These maps assist in determining if you are in a high-risk area of extreme weather.  They can also help you when it comes to choosing home or property insurance.  You need to know which type of coverage best suits your home since many insurance companies may not help with natural disaster insurance.

Speaking of insurance, once you pick the right plan for you and your home, you need to make sure basements are included in your plan.  Many insurance companies do not cover basement flooding and will not cover any lost property or mold damage.  This is a key component in flood prevention and preparation.

Know a game plan in case an emergency happens.  What would you do if you experienced a flood? Know the steps of flood restoration cleanup before an emergency; you won’t have time to plan once a flood happens.

Make sure your sub pump works correctly.  This is your first line of defense when heavy rainfall occurs in your area.  Unless there is flooding in the streets your sub pump should protect you if it works properly.

If you experience flood damage in your home, don’t hesitate to call us ServiceMasterTotal Restoration Services (TRS) (940) 757-0505.
